A Monsterly Good Time

Today we celebrated this little monster's birthday with a monster themed party.  We invited a few of our friends and neighbors over for a monsterly good time.  Here's the happy birthday boy!

The table.  Kids had monster toes (aka mini corndogs), monster mouths (aka apple slices), monster chips and monster eyeball cookies.

Here's a closeup of the cupcakes.  When T saw them and their colors he exclaimed, "hey those are secondary colors"  Why, you're right - never thought of it like that.  Guess we had secondary monster cupcakes.

Here's the Monster slime.  I got the idea online to put plastic eyeballs in the punch.  I thought it was great!

 Got this idea online as well - eyeball cookies.  They look disgusting.  But the kids liked them.  Those are Wilton edible eyeball candies in the center.

 I planned a cute little craft activity as a)something to entertain and b)a decent take home party favor.  I saw a kit online at Oriental Trading but alas, they were unavailable (must have been last years product).  So, I found a tutorial on this blog for the same idea.  It was a lot of cutting out on my part ahead of time but I think overall they turned out great and the kids enjoyed taking home a monster.  The kids glued on the face with fabric glue and then we tied them and stuffed them (as in we - it was mostly parents doing that part - sigh)

Present time!!!  The kids kept getting closer and closer to C as he opened.  It was so funny bc at one point they were literally pressed up against the wall.

C's first real birthday party was a success.  Thanks to all our friends who joined us to celebrate our sweet little Halloween baby!!!

Halloween 2013

Happy Halloween from the Jones' boys.  This year, two of the three wanted to be things that simply could not be bought.  So....homemade costumes it was.  I love having homemade costumes but boy oh boy are they a lot of work!

First up, W wanted to be a dragon.  Luckily we already had wings thanks to Aunt Ashley's gift one year.  Next up, I took an old sweatshirt, made scales for the front and spikes down the back.  The mask was purchased from a lady off Etsy for $5.  We had to cut the sleeves on the sweatshirt bc it was an old sweatshirt that was too little for W.  He was happy with the outcome.

Next up....T wanted to be Surge from Lego Hero Factory.

How did we do???  Thank goodness for colored duct tape!  HA!  We took his bike helmet and added a cardboard mask to it.  Then we took a nerf body armor and wrapped it in tape.  The leg and arm armor were pieces of cardboard cut into the desired shapes.  Once again, a happy kid!

Lastly, this little guy kept changing his mind.  He kept saying he wanted to be Mario so I borrowed a costume from a friend.  He wore it to the first Halloween event.

After that , he was sold on an old Monster costume I had that T wore a few years ago.  One of my personal favorites, so I didn't mind him wanting to wear it instead.

 We had another great year of trick or treating. We went around the neighborhood with our friends.  This is the rowdy crew.  And as usual - too much candy was collected.  Now for the willpower to stay out of it!

My baby is 4!

Can you believe this little pumpkin is 4?!?!? Yeah - me neither.

Since he's a Halloween baby, our day is jammed packed.  First up we had a Boo-Breakfast.

 Then we let C open his gifts since after school is CRAZY with Halloween excitement.  We got him a new bike and bike helmet.  He's so much bigger than my other kids at this age and he and T need the same bike size.  So....we had to buy a new one rather than pass down.  And poor thing had been riding around the neighborhood with a helmet that was too small.

After we dropped the boys off at school, I decided to make it a special day for this special boy.  We went to Build - A- Bear.

 After the mall - we headed to Sonic for 50 cent corndogs.  I'll never forget being in labor with C and S took off across the street to Sonic for their 50 cent corndogs (a halloween special)

 After Sonic we were in search for some ice cream.  I had heard about a place called Bahama Bucks so we went there.  Unfortunately they don't sell ice cream separately but they do put it in their shaved ice.  So we ordered a Birthday Cake shaved ice with ice cream.  I was blown away - I have not had that good of a snowball since we lived in New Orleans.  We will definitely be back!

 Then we came home and tried out our new bike.  He is much faster and loves his new ride.

 Later that night before Trick or treating, we celebrated with pudding cups with ghost peeps.  WE are having his Birthday party on Sat so cake will await us there.  So----stayed tuned.  There's more MONSTERLY fun ahead!
