Weekend with Nana and Pop

This weekend Nana and Papa Jones came for a visit. We decided to celebrate T's bday with a trip to the zoo. Both boys had a great time (as well as everyone else). They were such troopers for such a long day.

Lil' Slugger

We are currently in a little baseball program for toddlers. W doesn't like it. He likes to play baseball, he just doesn't like this program very much. He wants to play soccer again. Every week he asks if we are going to soccer. We will definitely go back to soccer next go round. This program doesn't have as much action - it's more waiting and that's not good for 3 yr olds. It's funny watching all those boys in the 'dugout' while waiting their turn. They are so antsy and figidity! W has great form while hitting the ball off the tee. Take a look....

Happy 1st Birthday!

Hard to believe a year has past since T was born! Today we had our best bud, Mason, and his big sis, Julia, over for cake and ice cream. T walked around the whole time arrogantly knowing all the attention was on him. We had a music party b/c T loves music.

First Day of Preschool

Thanks to the hurricane, W's first day of preschool was postponed a week. With the first day finally here, W was excited and not a tear was shed. (neither child nor mom) For those of you wondering about T, I think he secretly enjoyed all of his mommy's attention for the morning. When I picked W up from school, he was full of energy. He had so much fun! He told me they got to go to dance class (they have music class on Mondays and I'm assuming they danced?) As soon as we got home, he headed for his room and told me he was taking a rest. Poor thing...learning is such hard work!

The school has these special red tote bags the children must carry. We had bought W this cool red backpack and he was so excited to carry it. I was fearful he would ask about it this morning but luckily there was no mention of it!

Gustav vs. Jones

Gustav was no match for the Jones' household. Our house escaped unharmed. We came home yesterday afternoon even though we had no electricity. Luckily, right before I was ready to give the boys a cool bath before putting them to bed, the electricity was back! We were able to spend the night in AC!! Once we returned home, we went on a hunt for ice and propane. Took three stores before we found ice but we had no luck with the propane. Our house had no signs of water, leaks, etc and there were no trees down. I couldn't believe all those trees behind our lot were still in tact. Most of the city looked good. The only damage we saw were a few trees snapped in half. We saw a couple of houses with trees on them. There's a couple in our SS class whose house was crushed by a tree. S goes back to work on Monday and W's first day of preschool was postponed till Monday. We have heard on the news there are places south of New Orleans damaged very badly from the wind. I haven't seen any coverage on TV since our cable is still out. We just received internet late today (yipee). S is thinking about buying a generator for future use. Not a bad idea. So, all in all, we escaped unharmed from our first hurricane. Now let's just pray the rest of this season bypasses us all together!

Since our vacation was interrupted by the hurricane, I haven't had the chance to put up vacation pics. So, here's some from our few days we actually had of vacation.

Gustav Lands!

Safe and sound in Little Rock, we watched as Gustav hit landfall. Luckily, it did not take us too much extra time to get to Little Rock. The kids are having a blast at Nana and Papa's. From what we know so far, our neighborhood is okay. We have not had much rain on the Northshore so no threat of flooding. We did have high winds. There is a post on one of the forums from someone in our neighborhood (apparently he was one of those crazy people who rode it out). He stated from what he can tell, he did not see any trees on houses. We do know we have no power and that's what I'm concerned most about. Who knows when we will get power back. I don't really want to go back with the kids if it will be days before power returns. Another concern is the amount of traffic traveling back into the city. With the evacuation, people were staggered while leaving. Coming back, everyone will try to come back at the same time. We may go back tomorrow but we can't know for sure until morning. I will update more once we return and see the damage done.
