My Little Bookworm

This past week, W achieved a huge goal at his school.  They do a reading program called AR (which is nationwide at participating schools).  Students read a book then take a quiz over the book and earn points.  After a set number of points, they earn dog tags for their necklace.  At W's school once a student earns 10 dog tags (or 100 points), they receive a trophy and get to have lunch with the principal.  W earned his trophy.  This boys loved everything about the program.  He is a bookworm!  His teacher told me there are times where he is reading a book during tests in her class.  He simply puts it down, writes the spelling word and picks it back up.  At least I have taught him how to multitask!!!! HA!

 W also had a "family" project the week before Mothers Day.  He was to create a 3D model of an insect of his choice.  What did my son choose - but a yellowjacket wasp.  Probably the most detailed insect to choose!  Thank goodness his dad is AWESOME at building things.  Believe it or not, W either made these parts or told us what to do (he's good at delegating!).  I must take credit for the lifelike paper mache wasp nest we created.  Hee hee!

In case any of you ever have to do a 3D insect model - here ya go.  The body is two water bottles glued together.  The head is a styrofoam ball.  All spraypainted black.  Then we took yellow duck tape for the stripes.  The wings we made of wax paper and clear packing tape.  The legs are parts of a wire hanger painted yellow.  Wah-la!  Yellowjacket perfection!
